AAI introduces new ambulift service at Rajkot Airport Gujarat
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has announced the opening of a new ambulift (ambulance lift) service at Rajkot Airport to help travellers with limited mobility. Under the Accessible India Campaign, AAI has provided 14 airports throughout the country with ambulifts to assist Divyang passengers with impaired mobility in boarding the main decks of all types of aircraft (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan). Dehradun, Gorakhpur, Patna, Bagdogra, Darbhanga, Imphal, Vijayawada, Port Blair, Jodhpur, Belgaum, Silchar, Jharsuguda, Rajkot, and Hubli are among the 14 airports where the facility is now functioning. By the end of the month, it should be active in the airports of Dimapur, Jorhat, Leh, Jamnagar, Bhuj, and Kanpur. The AAI programme, which is part of the Government of India's Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), would make air travel more comfortable for those with disabilities and help Divyangjan at airports where aerobridges are not available. AAI has purchased 20 ambulifts for airports that operate Code C and other advanced level aircraft on a regular basis but lack aerobridge facilities. The government revealed that the ambulift was made in India under the Make in India strategy.
