30-foot Bhagat Singh statue to be unveiled at Chandigarh airport

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will unveil a 30-foot statue of Bhagat Singh at the Chandigarh international airport on September 28, commemorating the birth anniversary of the iconic freedom fighter. According to an official statement, this aesthetically designed statue is made of gunmetal.

Mann expressed hope that the statue would inspire younger generations to serve the country with zeal. He described the statue as a fitting tribute to the legendary martyr and a catalyst to perpetuate the legacy of this valiant son of the soil.

The international airport has already been named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, thanks to the persistent efforts of the state government. The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of naming airports, universities, and other institutions after iconic martyrs to inspire youth towards selfless service to the nation.

Mann noted that the statue would play a key role in preserving Bhagat Singh's legacy among the Punjabi diaspora arriving at the airport from across the country and the world. It will also serve as a reminder of his supreme sacrifice to commuters from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir, and other states. Bhagat Singh is remembered not just for his heroism but also for his philosophy of socialism and fight against injustice. (Business Standard)
