The international airport has already been named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, thanks to the persistent efforts of the state government. The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of naming airports, universities, and other institutions after iconic martyrs to inspire youth towards selfless service to the nation.

Mann noted that the statue would play a key role in preserving Bhagat Singh's legacy among the Punjabi diaspora arriving at the airport from across the country and the world. It will also serve as a reminder of his supreme sacrifice to commuters from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir, and other states.
