Volta Trucks will supply DB Schenker with 1500 electric trucks

DB Schenker, a German logistics company, has announced the addition of 1500 electric trucks to its fleet. According to the companies, the company will order electric trucks from startup Volta Trucks to transport goods from European terminals into city centres and urban areas

DB Schenker will test prototype electric trucks in distribution operations in the spring and summer of 2022, with the results being used in the production of 1,470 electric trucks. Those trucks will be built at a former MAN truck plant in Austria that Steyr Automotive has taken over. Electric trucks will be used at 10 DB Schenker locations across five countries.

In 2022, Volta Trucks intends to begin production of the Volta Zero, a 16-tonne electric truck. Over the next few years, bans on fossil-fuel commercial vehicles will go into effect in several European cities, putting pressure on logistics providers to find zero-emission alternatives.

DB Schenker employs approximately 74,200 people in 130 countries. Volta Trucks' order book now stands at around 4,500 electric trucks, thanks to this latest order. Its previous largest public order was for 1,000 refrigerated trucks from French firm Petit Forestier.

Volta Trucks is a full-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer and service provider on a large scale. Volta Trucks' headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden, with engineering based in the United Kingdom and a manufacturing facility set to open in Steyr, Austria. The firm also has sales offices in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. For the development and production of Volta Zero, Volta Trucks has partnered with many global supply chain leaders.
