NHAI to share toll revenue with BBMP during Peenya flyover closure

The Karnataka Rashtra Samithi had urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to pay the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) an amount of the revenue earned by the Navayuga Bengaluru Tollway Private Limited (NBTL) while the Goraguntepalya-Peenya flyover was closed.

The political party said that the elevated highway, Goraguntepalya-Peenya flyover, passing through the city had been partially closed since 24 December 2021 due to the slippage of pre-stressed cables within the two spans. NHAI has been collecting the full user fee from vehicles on both sides of the elevated highway, Nagasandra and Nelamangala, even though the motorists are using the highway less.

The party is demanding toll collected to be transferred to the local government. It said that vehicle users were not using the full length of the road for which the user fee was being collected. Vehicle users have been facing difficulties because they have to spend a long time crossing this stretch of the road. The party further demanded action against the company that implied low-quality construction to build the flyover.
