MTHL road to be upgraded to intelligent transportation system
The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) road, a 22 km sea link connecting South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, will be equipped with an intelligent transportation system (ITS) with an automated toll management system and modern CCTV cameras. The ITS will be installed for Rs 427 crore by an Austrian company in collaboration with an Indian agency, as proposed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) during its executive committee meeting on Tuesday. According to the official, the ITS includes electrical work on the sea link, street lighting, toll plaza construction, design and supply of administrative buildings, as well as a Command Control Centre (CCC) for monitoring the sea link with 133 cameras. Meanwhile, the executive committee approved the hiring of a new contractor to finish the work on Mumbai Metro line 2B between D N Nagar and Mandale, which had been stalled. The MMRDA removed the previous contractor because the work was moving too slowly, according to an official. The official said that only 16% of the work has been completed.
