Installation of solar plants at 55 airports to promote green energy

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) told the media that Airport operators, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), have installed solar power plants at 55 airports across India to promote the use of green energy at all of the country's airports.

Airport operators, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), have installed solar power plants under net metering, captive mode at various locations and airports for generation and self-consumption of green and renewable energy, according to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation General (Retd) V K Singh said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has taken steps to work toward carbon neutrality and net-zero carbon emissions at Indian airports, as well as hosting knowledge sharing sessions to standardise the country's carbon accounting and reporting framework and raise awareness about climate change mitigation.

Airport operators with scheduled operations have also been advised to map their carbon emissions and work toward carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions in a phased manner.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is a statutory body that is controlled by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Government of India. It is in charge of developing, upgrading, maintaining, and managing India's civil aviation infrastructure.

In India, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is the responsible body in charge of developing and regulating civil aviation policies and programmes. It creates and implements plans for the country's civil aviation to grow and expand in a safe and orderly manner.
