Delhi govt orders conversion of bare electric wires to insulated wires
The Delhi government has ordered the power department to convert bare electric wires of 11 kV to insulated wires after the ministry had approved the Policy to Convert Bare Conductors of 11 kV into Insulated Conductors. CM Arvind Kejriwal has said that the bare wires spoil the beauty of Delhi as unsafe for life and property. He said that it is the government's responsibility to provide safety and facility to the people of Delhi. According to a statement,2,264 km of the bare conductor are spread across Delhi, which will be converted into the insulated network by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL), BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL), and also BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL). The state government is also working on undergrounding the electrical wires, which are hanging on the streets, he said. The power department has a policy on shifting HT, 11 kV, 33 kV and 66 kV, and LT power transmission lines of 400 V, which are dangerous. Kejriwal said that the proposal was approved by the Delhi government in August 2018. The power department has prepared a detailed draft policy for converting 11 kV bare conductors to insulated conductors. From the 2,264 km wire, TPDDL, BYPL and BRPL will convert 1,270 km, 29 km and 965 km of bare conductors to insulated conductors, respectively. The finance department of Delhi gave Rs 25 crore to the power department for the electrical project under the Jagmagati Delhi programme in FY21-22. The conversion will take place in unauthorised colonies, urbanised villages, resettlement colonies, colonies established under the 20 programme in rural areas, and other rural areas like Lal Dora and extended Lal Dora.
