Schindler India has been awarded with the ‘Platinum’ certification for its manufacturing facility at Chakan in Pune by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). IGBC Green Factory Buildings is the first rating programme developed in India, exclusively for the industrial sector.
The Platinum certification was awarded as the company initiated new initiatives such as solar energy, packaging pallets reuse, recycling of TPU and maintaining the water and energy conservation measures. The sprawling campus houses the elevator factory, a 71-m-tall elevator test tower, the global R&D centre and the upcoming escalator plant.
Under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, Schindler has invested Rs 430 crore as a part of the total Rs 600 crore outlay. Commenting on the announcement, Uday Kulkarni, President-India and South East Asia, Schindler, says, “We are committed to conducting our business activities in harmony with society and the environment. Schindler’s products and services are designed to provide energy efficient and eco-friendly solutions to architects, contractors and building owners. It is only natural that we build our elevators in a manner that is conserving towards the environment and resources.”
