Having been approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Air Force, work on the expansion of Srinagar International Airport (SIA), to upgrade facilities and the runway area will begin soon. In order to accommodate more flights and to cater to more passengers, the AAI had last year announced its plan to expand the airport, which is around 16,700 sq m in area, and will have another 33,000 sq m added to it. The airport will have two additional aircraft stands to accommodate more flights.
